yes, another year has passed us by. Looking at the year in perspective, i got some travelling done - Bali for Mel's wedding, conference in South America, my first international tour and to our neighbouring nusantara of Borobudur. there's also the small matter of getting engaged. i count all this as no mean feat. And 2010 promises to be even better. So here's my musical journey through the last year of the decade.
1. VCR - the xx [one of david's favourite songs which grew on me, makes a perfect ringtone]
2. Fly me to the moon - Julie London [the exact version on 'Mad Men' which is became hooked on this year - starting my fetish for '60s style couture. watch out for dresses galore soon]
3. Don't Stop Believin - Lea Michele & Cory Monteith from the Glee soundtrack. Another tv series i dived into. A cross between Buffy & High School Musical - love the singing & dancing which the actors do themselved.
4. Single Ladies [Put a Ring on It] - inspiration? All i know is that Beyoncé is the only one of two artists i repeated from the 2008 compilation. Check these clips out from the Glee series (they obviously share my obsession):

5. Another wasted night - Bishop Allen [no real reason for including this. just thought it was fun and upbeat.]
6. Honey Bee - Zee Avi [love this Malaysian's voice. She's made it big now that she's signed to Jack Johnson's label].
7. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - the Beatles [the remastering of the albums caused a revival of all their great tunes. Guess this one's about me.]
8. Brazil - Pink Martini ["Brazil - when stars were entertaining June..." - had a fabulous time in Rio, Sao Paulo and Iguazu. (Ed's Note: Catch Pink Martini live at DFP this March.)]
9. A postcard to Nina - Jens Lekman [Been wanting to see him live for ages. Finally got my chance in of all places a student club in Buenos Aires?! He was fantastic. *swoon*]
10. El Manicero - Preservation Hall Jazz Band ['the peanut seller' closed off a fantastic performance by the PHJB with their New Orleans'-style second line leading the audience out onto the Promenade. A first for DFP :)].
11. Cherry Blossom Girl - AIR [Since i made a return to Japan in September i had to include another Nippon-esque tune. This time i'm happy to report that i finally made it to Kyoto and spent much too much time in Muji.]
12. To lose someone - Taken by Trees [Haunting tune and for the loss of my beloved Shane].
13. Jim Cain - Bill Callahan [Heard this song late in the year and his voice immediately won me over].
14. Eet - Regina Spektor [Another fantastic voice and album]
15. My Girls - Animal Collective [A by-product of listening to David's music on those long car journeys to and fro Penang. It'll grow on you, trust me.]
16. French Navy - Camera Obscura [see 15. above]
17. Para Dos - Orquesta Color tango [typical milonga music which people tango'd to in Buenos Aires]
As usual, let me know if you'd like a copy.
